The Nasty Critter is simply a creature that wanders about the Physics Tilt levels, and whenever he comes in contact with your marble,
he sucks energy from it.
Not only does he suck energy, he continues sucking energy for as long as you are in contact with him. So if you do
end up coming in contact with him...MOVE FAST!
By the way, this critter appears to be somewhat vaporous, since your marble can pass right through him!
