When I start a game of Adders in horizontal orientation on my tablet, there are no arrow buttons with which to turn the snake.
Also, it might be nice to have a pause button in this game.
Douglas
The game attempts to guess whether you have a mobile device, but currently the method I'm employing to guess is based entirely on the width of the device - if you're using a tablet in horizontal mode, it's too wide for me to safely assume that it's mobile. That's why you have the option of forcing touch controls in your options.

I may be remembering wrong, but I think I built (but didn't document yet) a pause feature for Adders - try pressing 'P', maybe?

Of course, if you're on your tablet, I guess you can't do that, because you don't have a keyboard displayed...right?
AlexanderBeetle
I guess I was not aware of the 'show touch controls' option. That did fix the problem for this game.
And you are correct; pressing 'p' won't work on my tablet.
AlexanderBeetle
I tested your suggestion of pressing "p" on my computer (since it won't work on my tablet). It does pause the game, but it also shows the game the whole time, so it could easily be used as a way to figure out and hunt down the answer before resuming the game. I don't know if that was intentional or not.

The real reason I am posting is because I have noticed a huge difference between the speed of this game on my tablet and the speed on my computer. "Turtle" is quite accurate on my tablet, but it's a rare turtle that can move as fast as the Adders snake on my computer.
Douglas
I thought about that, and I might change it, but I don't really want to hide the game entirely. Here's my thinking: there are essentially two kinds of people who play (well, three if you include the people who hate the game but play it anyway because they're trying to be helpful to the developer!):

1. The person who wants to see if they can beat the high score. If someone is good enough to do this, they're good enough to not need to repeatedly pause the game, and would get so tired of doing so before the game was over that they'd give up on it.

2. The person who needs to practice math facts. If that's why they're playing, well, that's why I built the game in the first place, and if they need to pause, it's still helping them practice, so I really don't mind.

And the speed thing fits with your previous comment about the hangman sketch being slower on your tablet...

I guess that means that - for now - you can get pretty great scores on Adders! ;)

What is the new block system? It does not put on blocks when I advance. But it does when I die.
Douglas
Yep, I think that summarizes it. :D The details will be in the new rule explanations.

OK thinks

The pause button does not work all the time.
Douglas
Have you noticed any patterns to when it does or doesn't? What happens when you click the button? nothing at all?
Yoda
Twice now when I got a right answer and paused it right after it went gray. But the adder did not stop.
Douglas
I think I may get rid of the pause feature altogether, since the game automatically pauses when you advance a level or crash.
Yoda
ok
Yoda
Is the speed faster in the new?
SmallFry
where's the pause button? unless you already got rid of it.
Douglas
It may be faster, Yoda - if it feels faster, it probably is. I wouldn't worry about the pause if I were you.
SmallFry
i just got 25 brick's in one game should their be that many? or is their any limit?
Douglas
At this point I don't think I put any limit in. I'd welcome feedback from all the Adders players about whether the game play needs some tweaking in regards to number of walls, speed of the adder, etc.
Yoda
Is there a max for the rating?
Yoda
It would be nice to have a notice that says what life it is. Because when you get to level twelve with your first life it hard to remember which life it is.
