Edit Student

The student edit form allows you either two or three options, depending on whether the student has a Student Credit assigned.

Name
If your student created their own membership account on the site, their login name is also their display name in the Virtual Classroom. This may not be helpful, since students generally create login names that are completely unrelated to their actual name.  This feature allows you to modify their display name within the Virtual Classroom system.  We recommend entering the student's last name, followed by a comma, followed by the student's first name.  This format will be most helpful for finding student reports sorted alphabetically.

Hidden
The hidden feature allows you to remove students from your student list without deleting them from your Virtual Classroom.  This is especially useful if you are no longer giving assignments to a particular student, but want to keep access to their data.

To view a student who has been hidden, click the "Hidden items" checkbox in the student list, and then click "Submit."  This will show all students in your classroom, including the ones you have hidden.

Account Recovery
This feature is available only if the student has a Student Credit assigned to their account.  If you were the teacher who assigned the Student Credit, you are considered the student's "primary" teacher.*  If your student has lost their login information, click "Begin account recovery."  You will see a new username and password for your student.  You may create a new password if you don't like the suggested randomly generated password.  Be sure to write down the new login name and password, so you can give it to the student!

When you click submit, a new account will be created, and all the student data (including the student credit) will be transferred to that account.

* The Primary teacher is the only teacher who can initiate account recovery.  Therefore, if another teacher assigned a Student Credit to the student, you will see a notice asking you to contact that teacher to help the student recover their account.
