Silence!

To be honest, I'm not really sure whether or not I really like silence. Sometimes it's nice because it means a break from my noisy and brother and his loud music. It can also be the perfect medicine for a headache. But there are a lot of times when silence is scary too. It can force us to think of all those things we hide in the back of our mind because we have nothing to listen to but our own thoughts and emotions. Silence holds all the unknown. I know this because when it's silent, you don't know what to expect. There's no warning noise of approaching danger, or even of good things, such as your mom bringing you a plate of cookies. As humans we rely on our senses, for me sound is a really big one. Along with my sight it can give me an idea of what lies around me. If I'm sitting at my desk I can hear the tick of the hands on my Peter Rabbit clock. When one of my family members comes upstairs I can hear the baby gate slide against the carpet and his wooden side-rails. Pure silence then is scary because you don't even have a glimpse at what is going on outside your line vision.
Silence also reminds me of death. Some nights when I lay in silence with no wind howling and no clock ticking I can't help think of the silence that must accompany the first seconds of your own death. No place in this world could be more silent. It's pure nothing, but your mind won't even be able to comprehend those first moments, cause, of course, your dead. And also the dead don't speak, unless you believe in spirits or angels or ghosts, but I'm thinking more of the actual physical bodies.
I've unfortunately been to more than my fair share of funerals. I've seen plenty of open caskets, and even been in the room when my grandpa died. Suddenly no sound comes from them, they look like they are sleeping, but you can't hear the sound of their breathing.
