Journal One: Dinosaur

Imagine you woke up and saw a dinosaur in your backyard. Write a story telling what you see and do.  (journal topic)

“Charlie! Wake up! Time for breakfast! You need to go out and feed the dog,” my mom yelled up to my bedroom. I groggily got out of bed and put my robe and slippers on. I grabbed Fido’s food bag in the kitchen and stumbled out into the backyard. At first I didn’t know what it was. It looked like a mini hill in the yard. After I rubbed my eyes I blinked them open and there it was. A dinosaur! A huge green and blue stegosaurus! Right in my backyard! “Mom! Come here quick,” I yelled. She came rushing out. “Now, walk slowly over here. Don’t scare it. We don’t know how it got here. And be quiet.” When Mom got there, the stegosaurus looked at her and growled a deep and throaty growl. Mom backed away toward the house and the dino stopped growling. “Mom, walk slowly over here and then back away like you did before.” She did as was asked, and just like I thought, the dino growled and stopped again. “Okay, Mom. He doesn’t like you, so stay back while I talk to him.” “But, you might get bitten, Charlie,” Mom cried. “Don’t worry,” I told her. “It will be okay. I don’t think he will.” I walked up to the dinosaur and calmly said hi. The dino then nudged my shoulder to say hi back, and then put his head in my hand like a dog. I decided then and there to keep him and name him Chomper.
