Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by EJ Carol on May 16, 2012
"This is a series I intended to start a couple of years ago but I never quite got around to it, until now. I have decided to keep each part short so that I am not under any pressure to maintain high word counts and can therefore write at my leisure and for my own enjoyment. I hope it you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it."

The Forgotten, Part 1

The Forgotten
Part 1

Life begins before you are even aware of its existence. Like any creature, you start with slender means and complete dependence. Watchful, but without cognizance. Swallowing the world whole and expecting everything. Flaccid limbs entomb the yearnings of the restless young, and they gaze and cry as new compulsions overwhelm them. No creator is composed of the same make-up or temperament, and born to their mercy; the new are helpless to their desultory whims and a victim of their enduring pilgrimage through life. Outside influences determine the course their life will take, be they social, racial, or even political. However the most profound impact will originate in their earliest days, as they begin to listen, to learn, to repeat. It is in these years that they will learn the very basics of living, of the existence of love and the inimitable importance of being. The lucky ones enter into a world of complete devotion and provision. They are loved simply because they exist. Then there are those who are not so fortunate.
They are the forgotten.
