The Price of my Morals

It wasn't long ago that I was making my way through college by being employed as a taste tester for a large food corporation. The job not only provided money, but kept me fed at the same time. It was the perfect arrangement.

While being a taster, I was approached by one of the division supervisors who informed me of a new frozen lasagna dish that would be coming my way soon. I was offered a large sum of money if I were to give the lasagna a raving review. I had never practiced that kind of deceit before and was not comfortable with the idea. I could always use more money, so I told the supervisor that I would consider the offer.

When the day arrived for me to taste the lasagna I was a nervous wreck. I had decided that my morals were worth more than the supervisor was offering. Infinitely more. What I was worried about was whether my job would be in jeopardy if I declined a superior. Also, I wondered if I should report the man for his scheming.

When I tasted it, I rated it for what it was: a very common tasting lasagna. It was neither good nor bad. I decided to give the supervisor another chance, but determined to report him if he tried something like it again.

I have never regretted not selling out my morals for money.
