"Elana knew the only way to save her family was to create a plan. But first she needed strength. She knew exactly where to go for that. "
Seeking the Peace that Surpasses All Understanding
Elana knew she had to have a plan. Her husband couldn't do it - he was paralyzed with guilt and shame and the reality of not having enough money to pay the bills. For Elana, a plan sometimes stifled her creativity. She liked to be free to spin on a dime, change course and fly in the direction of her latest thought. Yet she knew that if an emergency directive wasn't hammered out post haste, there would be no chance of survival. How to patch a quilt with a thousand holes and not enough thread, she thought. Where would she get the money to stop the quilt from disintegrating? Elana tried to still her racing thoughts and push down the tears that once again were swelling in her throat like the whitecaps that hit the dock during a storm off the lake. She needed a warning system. She never knew when the tears would start, and when they did, they rendered her lifeless. Worn down and exhausted. Elana decided that she would invent her own early warning distress signal.
When she was anxious, she would turn to the only place that helped her gain the peace that surpassed all understanding. She would go to the Adoration chapel at the church and sit before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. There she would at least find strength. And a plan.
Elana jumped in the shower and scrubbed the doubt off her body. Then she drove straight to the church. Help there was plentiful. And free. And she needed all the help she could get.
