A Choice
We cruise down the breakdown lane, ignoring the glares of other drivers. With his tiny arm in a splint, I do not care for law tonight. In retrospective, this will be my pitfall, but for now, I only wish to arrive at the safe haven of sterile whiteness, where his ailment will be identified. I drive with purpose. I pass with abandon. I am more focused than a presidential candidate on the campaign trail in October.Behind me, I see the hue all motorists dread. Blue, flashing blue. I pray for a rogue pine to uproot itself and cut me off from all pursuers. I step on the gas. My child cries piteously in the backseat.
"Hush, love. Mother's here". I say it calmly, but my heart is racing. I cannot protect him from the dangers of life. I would give up everything to do so. Tonight I drive naughtily, as I have never done before. I do it for him. I sin for him. I think, as I race onwards into the night, that this perhaps, is how Adam felt in Eden. Recklessly throwing his innocence to the wind. Choosing to fall for the one he loved.
