Changing Ways

Joshua wanted some sort of normalcy. He got a job at an auto repair shop in downtown LA. He started taking business classes at night and he also went to church in Crenshaw every Sunday. When the gangbangers of the Crips asked him to join, he got out of it every time.
One Sunday after church, Joshua walked his Grandmother to the house where he was staying. He sat on the porch and smoked a cigarette.
All of a sudden, gunfire rang through the air. It was the Crips in a red Mustang. They were out to kill him after all. Joshua ducked into some bushes, but he got hit. Blood was everywhere on the sidewalk. Grandmother's dog was shot up.
Joshua went to the hospital. His Grandmother threw him out so he had to wait for his jumpoff, a broad he didn't care nothing about but he had her number for a while. The jumpoff was gonna let him stay with her on one condition: He had to be her steady man and help her with the four kids she had and the bills. Joshua agreed.
Joshua wore his blue jeans and a white tee to work. He hurt his hand fixing brakes on a car. He didn't leave early because he really needed this job.
Later that evening, the Crips were at Nita's house. Joshua threw his hands up and told Nita and her four kids to get in the house. They obeyed.
Joshua walked towards the Crips and they shot.
Joshua woke up in the hospital.
When he got out, he married Nita and joined the Air Force. He was to ship out in a month. His Grandmother was so proud.
