Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Brian Sloan on August 20, 2014

First Line

One fine morning, I stepped outside
with a wisp-wisp of socked feet
too early for shoes, too early for shoes
left-right pitter-patter
stepping some life into my eyes

Unshaven, unshowered, I mumble
prayers for inconspicuity
as I slip down the stairs
towards the headache-inducing
violently red laundry room
with its single strobing bulb
pulsing at the speed of a dying heart
