Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Scott on November 6, 2011
"This is another writing that perhaps works better as a song then just a poem. *sigh* if only I could write music. And sing..."

Lord Bless the Parents

From the time that I was just a boy
You gave me days of endless joy
With a little discipline.
You taught me how to be a man
To do the best, the best I can
And give a little back.
I know I've never said enough
Not good with all this mushy stuff,
But who I am is all because of you.

A parent's love is 'just because'
And not for what their child does
Or anything that he could ever bring.
They sacrifice with sleepless nights
To teach him all the wrongs and rights
Really there can be no better plan.
Lord, bless the loving parents of this man.

Through the years you were my friend
Though my time of learning did not end
Just different lessons learned.
When I became an anxious dad
You gave the wisdom that you had
You really knew it all.
If I can be but half the one
You were to me, your youngest son
Mom and Dad, it's all because of you.

A parent's love is 'just because'
And not for what their child does
Or anything that he could ever bring.
They sacrifice with sleepless nights
To teach him all the wrongs and rights
Really there can be no better plan.
Lord, bless the loving parents of this man.

But time it takes its toll on you
I think of all the you've been through
But still you worry all the more for me
I'll be alright, I'll make it through
I've learned so much from both of you
You're the greatest gift that I have ever had.

A parent's love is 'just because'
And not for what their child does
Or anything that he could ever bring.
They sacrifice with sleepless nights
To teach him all the wrongs and rights
Really there can be no better plan.
Lord, bless the loving parents of this man.
