New/Edit Assignment

This data entry screen is the most complex form in the Virtual Classroom.  It provides you with the ability to fine-tune an activity for your students.  We encourage teachers to try the activities for themselves before assigning them to students, to ensure that the activities, and your expectations are age/grade appropriate.

Activity
Click inside the "Activity" textbox.  This will drop down a large list of all possible activities available on the website.  Some of the activities are divided into categories, so you can "drill down" by clicking the category names.  For example, to access the game "Subtraction Triangles," click "Math Games" and then "Subtraction Triangles."

Setup Parameters
Many of the activities available for you to assign to your students have Setup Parameters.  These are things that define the manner in which a student will do the activity.  For example, the game "Adders" has two setup parameters: Speed, and Operation.  The speed parameter defines how fast the game play happens.  You can either set that parameter to a speed value, or to "Student's Choice."  If you set it to "Student's Choice," the student can choose any speed, and it will count toward completing the activity.  If you set it a specific value, you are requiring that the student play at that speed in order to count toward activity completion.

Since each activity has its own setup parameters, the parameters will be different depending on which activity you choose.  Please try the activity for yourself before you assign it to students, so you don't give unreasonable expectations.

Success Parameters
Many of the activities have success parameters in addition to setup parameters.  A success parameter defines a certain goal that the student must attain in the activity in order for it to count toward completion of the activity.  For example, many games have a score parameter.  These activities will allow you to specify what score students must reach in order for the activity to count as a success.

Title
By default, the assignment title is the name of the activity.  However, you can change the title to something else if you wish.  For example, you might change the name to "Bonus Assignment," or "Problem of the Week," etc.

Success Count
This is the number of times the student must complete the activity, meeting all of the Success Parameters.  For example, if you set this parameter to 5, the student will be required to successfully complete the activity five times in order to be done the assignment.

Comments
Provide any extra comments for your students to read about this assignment, or leave this blank.

Due Date
The due date is the date on which you expect the assignment to be completed.  On the student's Virtual Classroom page, assignments will be displayed in order of which assignment has the nearest due date.

Hidden
Hide an assignment if you no longer need to see it in your assignment list.

Submit
When you submit the form, you will be redirected to the Assign this activity form, which will allow you to select students/groups to give the assignment to.
