The fellowship of the king

yesterday my pastor gave a sermon called the fellowship of the king about how we are all trying to find our way back to Heaven to be with God. He called it a quest, and said it was like the quest the hobbits were in. He showed footage from the lord of the rings trilogy. Tollkien was a Christian, so you can see the analogy.
It seems like we have to suffer a lot to get to heaven, but I guess in the end it will be wort it. In the Bible it says, "Every human being God has ever made is someone he wants to save." I don't know if he'll save everybody, but he has a passion for his human creation. people in Ancient greece and rome were just like us. nobody worships Zues anymore, but the one God rules forever.
