The following is a piece of writing submitted by Angela on November 27, 2007
"This one's badly written D= I didn't have much time to write it but I hope you get the twist in the end. If you don't, sorry. I realize it could have been better developed."

The Woes of Working in the Toy Industry

Terry never could understand why Alex hated Christmas so much. Christmas was always a great holiday and Terry loved the atmosphere. The Christmas music, the smell of freshly baking cookies, the colorful decorations, the snow. He loved the reindeer and the giant Christmas tree, the wrapping and giving of gifts. He loved all of it. So one day, he accosted Alex during their lunch break with all the other workers.

"How's it going, Alex," he said as he slapped him on the back. The movement caused Alex his coffee to slosh out of the cup and onto the table and floor.

"Just... dandy, Terry. Just dandy," he mumbled as he tried to clean the mess.

"That's great to hear," said Terry as he took a swig of his eggnog, completely oblivious to Alex's sarcasm.

Alex wrinkled a nose and straightened his outfit. "How can you drink that stuff," he asked Terry.

"Easy. Like so," he said as he took another drink. "It's part of the whole Christmas thing anyways. Everyone knows that eggnog's especially for the holidays."

"Bah-humbug," mumbled Alex. "Another reason why I hate Christmas."

"Why do you hate it anyways," said Terry, placing emphasis on the "do".

"Well, let's see. For one, it's the busiest time of the year for us! I mean, we work throughout the year, but when Christmas comes around, we need to work even harder. I mean, all the toys... I do the same job every single day. If I don't supervise, I'm actually on the floor doing the same, boring job over and over and over again. 'Oh this toy car's tires need to be put on. Oh. So does this one! And this one! And this one!'"

His ranting caused the other cheery workers to stop their Christmas song singing and cookie eating.

Terry patted Alex on the back. "There, there. You know how the toy industry is. It's always like this. All the boys and girls are counting on you. You don't want to let them down do you?"

"No," he said. "I suppose not. And I suppose it's a good thing that I don't have to do any of that horrid gift-wrapping duty. But it's during this time that the stupid reindeer come out. I hate reindeer. Especially Rudolph, with his bright red nose! I can't concentrate when they're in here and his nose is trying to blind me. And the giant Christmas tree. I mean really, if Mr. Holly Jolly wants Christmas decorations, couldn't he set them up in his house?"

"Aw," said Terry as he picked out a gingerbread man and bit off his head. "Don't say that. You know the boss loves the holiday season. Don't spoil it for him. Besides... the reindeer aren't that bothersome, they're on the far side of the factory, along with the tree, so it's not that bad."

"No... well, I still don't like the atmosphere... it's all too much. They start putting Christmas music on the day after Thanksgiving!" complained Alex. "And the weather's too cold and the snow that blows in melts and makes the floor slippery and the machines are all messed up."

"Can't help the weather buddy. Now you're just nit picking random things. How it sucks to be a lowly supervisor in a toy company in New York eh? I bet you Santa's elves love this kinda stuff."

Meanwhile... in Santa's workshop at the North Pole...

Jerry could never understand why Alexis hated Christmas so much.

When he asked her, she just muttered, "Humans have all the luck. I bet you everyone just loves this kind of stuff. With the music and the decorations and the eggnog. Bleah."
