Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction
Center Stage
If all the world's a stage, as Shakespeare said,I'd like to think that when the footlights rise
And in the hush the crimson curtains spread,
Then I, the star, can freely choose my guise,
And take my place alone in center stage.
There I'll recite the words I choose to say,
Instead of scripted lines from off the page,
And let my talents proudly be displayed.
But if I stand at center stage and preen,
I oft forget that every play must bear
A multitude of players for each scene,
Directed on with wisdom and with care.
So I've no right to take the center space;
This stage is not my own exclusive shrine,
And in life's audience I'll take my place,
And gladly cheer another actor's line.
