Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Pasameerday on February 17, 2014

Lenses

Raindrops splashed against his face
and with them came the world.
The droplets tiny, sparkling lenses
Through the heavens hurled.

And with each shattered lens he caught
A glimpse of something new.
As raindrops hurtled past his eyes
He stopped and looked right through.

The windows led him to a hue
That writhed and bathed and fought.
A twisting, changing light that hyp-
notised and so he’s caught.

The ever-dancing beauty
made the shapes so well entwined.
His heart beat three times faster
And his brain and soul combined.

The drops melted into his face,
into his upturned mind.
He left his old pleasures and wants
Somewhere quite far behind.

And as the sun began to shine
The clouds parted and then,
As rain began to drip away
He was broken again.

The lenses had distorted
All the grey and gloom away.
The lenses had revealed
The light and sun of gorgeous day.

He strolled himself along the beach
His footprints in the sand.
And closed his eyes, and let the colours
Hold his outstretched hand.

And guide him through the spikes and traps
And guide him through the tears.
Give power to his punches
When the warm sun reappears.

The footprints trailed off endlessly
Horizon basked in rain
And then he opened both his eyes
And saw colour again.
