The story of a little girl

My daddy,
he left when I was 2.

My mommy,
she cried.
My little sister,
she was too young
to remember.

My daddy,
I don't know where he is.
He made
my mommy cry.
She made my little sister
sad too.

My name is
Novalee,
and I have to make things
better.
I have to get mommy a
tissue,
and same with my little sister.
I have to take care of her, too,
by making silly faces
to make her laugh.

My mommy's boyfriend,
He came one night,
with flowers
and dinner reservations.

My daddy,
he was jealous.
My mommy,
she cried.
But not because she was
upset,
but because she is so happy.

Me, I laugh.
Because he has put me on his
shoulders,
and is making silly faces at my
little sister,
who isn't sad.
Because now mommy's happy
and so am I.

All my
little sister remembers
was a sad mommy,
now happy,
and an older sister
who is now happy,
too.

My mommy's boyfriend,
proposed when I was 4.
My mommy said yes,
my daddy is jealous.
I'm happy.
And so is my little sister.
He is the only daddy
she ever knew.

Now in 5 months,
he will be
my daddy.

He always was.
